  • In August 2025, Miami Herbert welcomed a total number of 10 new doctoral students for the Ph.D. programs in Business and Economics. Saetbyeol Kim won the Outstanding PhD in Research Award. The PhD Student Mentorship Award received 18 nominations and was presented to Noah Williams and Nina Huang.
  • Alan Huang, a doctoral student in Business Technology, received an invitation to join the Wharton Innovation Doctoral Symposium (WINDS), to present joint work with Professor Nina Huang on workflow automation. WINDS is a prestigious and competitive event for top PhD students who work on innovation research all over the world, accepting less than 20% of applicants.

    In addition, Professor Huang’s joint work with Alan just received a paper acceptance in Management ScienceHuang N, Burtch G, Chen P, Huang A (2025) “Evaluating the Efficacy of Platform-Imposed Application Costs for Managing Congestion in Online Matching Markets,” Management Science, forthcoming.

  • In January 2023, Claudio Rizzi, a doctoral candidate in Finance at MHBS, was awarded a $20,000 top prize from BlackRock, a leading investment and risk management firm, for his study “Nature as a Defense from Disasters: Natural Capital and Municipal Bond Yields.” Read More.
  • In 2023, Boshuo Li, a doctoral student in Strategy/IB, and his advisor, Dr. Wei Shi, won a competitive research grant from the Ford Foundation to study the cost and benefits of human capital management transparency.
  • In 2022, Boshuo Li won the Miami Herbert Ph.D. Student Research Award and the Miami Herbert Ph.D. Student Teaching Award.
  • In August 2023, Shiyi Zhang, a doctoral candidate in finance was selected as one of the finalists for the 2023 Dr. Richard A. Crowell Memorial Prize Paper Competition organized by PanAgora Asset Management’s Quantitative Research Institute.
  • In August 2023, Miami Herbert hosted a new doctoral students’ orientation. A total number of 13 doctoral students joined Ph.D. programs in Business and Economics.
