The Office of Civic and Community Engagement fosters university-community collaboration by engaging the University’s academic resources in the enrichment of civic and community life in our local, national, and global communities. We seek to accomplish this goal by connecting students, faculty, and community organizations together in a collaborative process that translates academic knowledge into civic responsibility to promote positive social change.
The Center is the H.E.A.R.T. of our LGBTQ Community here at the University of Miami. It provides a Holistic approach to Educating and creating Awareness around issues of gender, sexuality, and identity using Restorative practices that Transform the lives of our students and the greater Miami community. It has plenty of ways for students to get involved, including our IBIS Mentorship program, the IBIS Ally Network, and other volunteer opportunities.
Spirituality is an important part of many students’ lives, and religious centers located on or near campus provide opportunities for services as well as dialogues, discussions and symposiums. Each denomination is served by trained clergy or lay workers who are sensitive to the needs of college students, faculty, and staff and are available for counseling and advising.
Designed to be one of the finest centers in the nation for recreational sports, fitness, and wellness education programs, the Patti & Allan Herbert Wellness Center affirms our commitment to a well-rounded educational environment.
