International Experiential Learning

Developed by the Hemispheric University Consortium and co-hosted by the Universidad Católica de Chile and Miami Herbert Business School, the Social Ideas Challenge (SIC) is a challenge which seeks to promote entrepreneurship with social impact through university communities. The best ideas are sought at an early stage to help solve problems that affect our society. Participating institutions include: University of Miami (USA), Universidad Austral (Argentina), Universidad Andrés Bello (Chile), Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Ecuador), Tec de Monterrey (Mexico) and Pontificia Universidad Católica (Chile). The contest focuses on socio-environmental challenges, within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The finale was a part of eMerge-Americas Annual Conference.

Founded by the College of Business Administration at Loyola Marymount University, the International Business Ethics and Sustainability Case Competition brings students teams together to address a wide array of business ethics issues. Considered the nation’s most prestigious event of its kind, the IBESCC consists of three separate competitions: a 25 Minute Presentation followed by Q&A and feedback; a 10 Minute Presentation and a 90 Second Presentation. In 2021 Virtual Competition, Miami Herbert students took home three first-place wins.

This program gives students the opportunity to travel abroad and work on projects for real companies. It's the perfect opportunity for graduate students to gain valuable hands-on international business experience. Participants in the Global Business Consulting program solve real problems, and experience real success.
Teams of three to five undergraduate finance, accounting and economics business students prepare and defend a client investment portfolio. Each team present their portfolio and its criteria. Each institution will select one team to participate in the final competition where each team makes an oral presentation. UADE and Miami Herbert Business School co-hosts and participating institutions include Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in Dominican Republic, Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola in Peru and Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo León in Mexico A jury composed of one representative from each selects first and second place winning teams.

The Hyperion Council encourages undergraduate business students to gain leadership experience by developing projects that strengthen the bonds between the local business and university communities. Country Initiatives

China

Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) – Miami Herbert Business School and SAIF entered and agreement enabling students to take several courses of their Master of Science in Finance degree at SAIF before continuing their program in Miami.

Xiamen University – Together with FGV in Brazil and EGADE in Mexico, Miami Herbert forms part of the OneMBA Consortium offering a world class global MBA degree to executive students across the world.

Bahamas

After Hurricane Dorian in 2019, with support of LACI Advisory Board member, Vincent Vanderpool, helped Miami Herbert join forces with University of the Bahamas and small businesses. Graduate students from across the University worked to develop resiliency strategies with the business owners.

Dominican Republic

Miami Herbert teamed up with US Embassy in Dominican Republic in their highest attended higher education webinar to date in an in-depth look at financial markets and trends provided by former Chair of Goldman Sachs Brazil and Miami Herbert Finance Professor Paulo Leme.

University of Miami Office in Mexico – Miami Herbert maintains close ties with the UM Office in Mexico organizing events catering to the private sector in Mexico, as well as Latin American corporations: “Conferencia Magistral: Race-to-the Top Strategy Paradigm” 

Argentina

Austral University, a member of the Hemispheric University Consortium (HUC), partners with Miami Herbert on several initiatives including The Social Ideas Challenge, “Pathway to Prosperity” Workshops on Social Entrepreneurship through the Sustainable Development Goals.

An Articulation Agreement was recently signed to enable the transfer of MBA credits from Austral University IAE Business School to master’s degree programs at Miami Herbert.

UADE University and Miami Herbert co-host The Hemispheric Investment Portfolio Challenge empowering undergraduate business students to sharpen their finance acumen by preparing an investment portfolio for their “assigned” client and presenting the proposal. The event is sponsored by Santander and Microsoft.

Brazil

Fundacao Getulio Vargas (FGV) together with EGADE Business School in Mexico and Xiamen in China, Miami Herbert forms part of the OneMBA Consortium offering a world class global MBA degree to executive students across the world.

IXL Project Apex – Through partnership with Miami Herbert, MBA students partook in a semester-long Applied Career Experience providing international consulting services to small companies in Brazil.

Chile

Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, member of the Hemispheric University Consortium (HUC), partners with Miami Herbert on several initiatives including The Social Ideas Challenge  where University of Miami is co-host.

Colombia

Universidad Los Andes, member of the Hemispheric University Consortium (HUC), partners with Miami Herbert on several initiatives including The Social Ideas Challenge, “Pathway to Prosperity” Workshops on Social Entrepreneurship through the Sustainable Development Goals.

Pro-Colombia - Miami Herbert partners with Pro-Colombia on graduate and undergraduate experiential learning projects aimed at small and medium businesses in Colombia, as well as strategic planning in trending markets and sustainable business.

Ecuador
